MLB: New York Yankees 6, Kansas City 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 11 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia went 7 2/3 shutout innings Saturday night, pitching the New York Yankees to a 6-1 win over Kansas City.

Bouncing back from a disappointing opening day loss at Baltimore, Sabathia (1-1) held the Royals to six hits and struck out six. Jose Veras pitched 1 ½ innings in relief and give up the Royals' only run in the Yankees third straight win.

Nick Swisher had a homer, a triple, two walks, three RBI and three runs scored for New York. Jorge Posada had two doubles and three RBI and Johnny Damon scored twice.

Tony Pena drove in a run and Horacio Ramirez (0-1) allowed six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Royals.

Posada drove in two runs in the first with a double and then drove in another with a third-inning double.

Swisher put the Yankees ahead 6-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth.
