MLB: Arizona 9, Los Angeles Dodgers 4

PHOENIX, April 11 (UPI) -- Chris Young collected three hits and Conor Jackson drove in three runs to lead Arizona to a 9-4 win over Los Angeles Friday in Phoenix, Ariz.

Jon Garland (1-0) was effective in his Diamondbacks debut, going seven strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks, while Felipe Lopez went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored for Arizona.

Casey Blake blasted a two-run homer, while Manny Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for the losing Dodgers, who went to the bullpen early after starter James McDonald (0-1) lasted just 2 1/3 innings.

"You want to go out, go out and put up the number, give your team a chance to win the first one," Garland said. "You kind of want to prove yourself to a new team. Spring training is over and the season kicked off. You really want to show them what you've got."

Young sparked Arizona's five-run third inning with a leadoff homer.
