MLB: New York Yankees 4, Kansas City 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 10 (UPI) -- Andy Pettitte yielded a run and just three hits Friday, helping the New York Yankees record a 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals.

After surrendering 14 runs over 20 1/3 innings in three starts against the Royals last season, the lone run Pettitte gave up Friday scored on Mike Jacobs' second-inning double. He walked one batter, fanned six and threw only 99 pitches in seven innings.

Jorge Posada hit a two-run first-inning single. Nick Swisher and Derek Jeter had one RBI apiece, while Robinson Cano had two of the seven hits in the Yankees' second straight victory.

Losing pitcher, journeyman Sidney Ponson (0-1), a former Yankee, surrendered four earned runs and six hits in six innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

Like the Yankees, the Royals have split their first four contests.
