DETROIT, April 9 (UPI) -- Jason Arnott's shootout goal gave the Nashville Predators a 4-3 win over Detroit Thursday that kept the Predators' playoff hopes alive.
A goal by Nashville's Joel Ward with 59.3 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime and the eventual shootout.
The victory lifted the Predators into a tie with St. Louis and Anaheim, both idle Thursday, in a battle for the final two playoff spots in the Western Conference.
Arnott also had a goal in regulation and Scott Nichol added a goal for Nashville.
Nicklas Lidstrom, Niklas Kronwall and Johan Franzen scored for the playoff-bound Red Wings.
Predators goalie Pekka Rinne finished with 23 saves and Chris Osgood had 22 for Detroit.
