Andreev wins at Casablanca tennis event

CASABLANCA, Morocco, April 9 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Igor Andreev took three hours Thursday to win his second-round match at the Grand Prix Hassan II tennis tournament in Casablanca, Morocco.

When the marathon was over, the Russian recorded a 6-7 (11-13), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory against unseeded Nicolas Devilder of France.

The lengthy match had only three service breaks in all.

Also Thursday, No. 6 seed Marc Gicquel of France was a 6-4, 7-5 winner against Germany's Mischa Zverev; fifth-seeded Florent Serra of France beat Belgium's Olivier Rochus 6-3, 6-3; and Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili downed Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4, 6-4.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Andreev faces Gicquel; Serra plays Gabashvili; third-seeded Albert Montanes of Spain plays Portugal's Frederico Gil; while fourth-seeded Victor Hanescu of Romania meets former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain.

The eventual champion will pocket $96,000.
