Eger leads Champions Tour tournament

CAP CANA, Dominican Republic, March 27 (UPI) -- David Eger fired a bogey-free round Friday and has a 1-stroke, first-round lead at the PGA Champions Tour's Cap Cana Championship in the Dominican Republic.

Eger turned in a 5-under 67 for the lead ahead of Keith Fergus, Tom Jenkins, Nick Price, Eduardo Romero and Tim Simpson, who are tied for second at 4-under 68. John Cook, who shot 69, is alone in seventh and 10 golfers are tied for eighth at 2-under 70.

Eger hasn't won on the Champions Tour since the 2005 Greater Seattle Classic but was very steady Friday with five birdies and 13 pars.

He started the round on the back nine and posted his first birdie at No. 11 and, after three straight pars, jumped up the leader board with birdies at 15 and 17. He strung together another four pars before getting birdies at 4 and 6. He finished with three consecutive pars for his 67.
