LYNCHBURG, Va., March 24 (UPI) -- Guard Seth Curry, younger brother of Davidson star Stephen Curry, announced Tuesday he plans to transfer from Liberty University's basketball program.
Curry, the nation's highest-scoring freshman (20.2 points per game), said he wants to play in a higher level of competition. Liberty, a Division 1AA school in Lynchburg, Va., founded by the late evangelical minister Jerry Falwell in 1971, plays in the Big South Conference.
"This is a difficult decision that I have reached after close consultation with my family and others close to me," Curry said. "It is based on my desire to develop as an athlete to the fullest of my potential and take advantage of new opportunities that may be available to me in a higher-rated conference."
Liberty Coach Ritchie McKay said he's disappointed with Curry's decision, but doesn't fault him for wanting to transfer to a higher-profile conference.
Liberty's (23-12) season came to an end Monday, when it lost to James Madison 88-65, in the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
