Sources: Alex Rodriguez dated madam

NEW YORK, March 22 (UPI) -- New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez once dated a woman who allegedly provided call girls for former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, sources claim.

Unidentified former employees of a call-girl agency once run by Kristin Davis maintain Rodriguez and Davis temporarily dated for free after the madam failed to lure the Yankees slugger in as a client, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

The sources said the couple's courtship also included gifts such as flowers and jewelry from Rodriguez to Davis. Two of the sources said Rodriguez, who was married at the time, was also a repeat customer at one of Davis's agencies.

Davis, who reportedly first met Rodriguez in Philadelphia in 2006, would not confirm the claims.

"In regard to Alex, all I can say is our paths have definitely crossed personally and professionally," she said.

One of the anonymous sources told the Daily News Rodriguez had admitted to Davis he had used steroids. The baseball star admitted in February to using performance-enhancing drugs during his major league career.

"He told her that he'd used steroids," the source alleged. "He said a lot of players did. He just wanted to be a good ballplayer."
