COL BKB: Syracuse 78, Arizona State 67

MIAMI, March 22 (UPI) -- Eric Devendorf's 21 points Sunday led five players in double figures in a 78-67 Syracuse win over Arizona State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Orange, the third seed in the South Region event in Miami, seized control after an early 5-4 deficit and led 41-32 at the half.

ASU closed to 61-57 on Ty Abbott's 3-pointer with 6:38 left, but Syracuse ended with a 17-10 run and advanced to a Sweet 16 encounter against second seed Oklahoma Friday in Memphis.

Andy Rautins scored 17 with four rebounds and five assists. Rick Jackson scored 13 with eight rebounds. Arinze Onuaku scored 12 points, while Jonny Flynn added 11 points and seven assists for the Big East Tournament runners-up.

Abbott and Rihards Kuksiks led the sixth-seeded Sun Devils with 20 points apiece.

Their leading scorer this season, James Harden, added 10 with six rebounds and five assists.

Harden sank only 2-of-10 shots against Syracuse's 2-3 matchup zone defense, and missed his first six shots.
