COL BKB: Ariz. State 66, Temple 57

MIAMI, March 20 (UPI) -- Derek Glasser's career-high 22 points Friday led Arizona State's 66-57 first-round NCAA Tournament victory against Temple in the South Region at Miami.

The Sun Devils built an early 9-2 lead.

Later, a 10-0 run helped pull Temple within 29-26 1:55 before halftime.

Glasser then sank two 3-pointers to give ASU a 35-26 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, Temple was unable to come within three points.

Jeff Pendergraph also scored 22 with seven rebounds but high-scoring James Harden was held to nine points with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Sun Devils (25-9), the region's sixth seed.

Dionte Christmas led Temple with 29 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Lavoy Allen, the only other player in double figures, scored 11 with 10 rebounds and four assists for the 11th-seeded Owls (22-12), winners of the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament for the second straight season.
