SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 8 (UPI) -- Miguel Olivo homered twice and knocked in five runs Sunday to lead the Dominican Republic's 9-0 World Baseball Classic win over Panama.
The contest in San Juan was an elimination game in Pool D.
Olivo, a Kansas City Royals catcher, hit a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth inning and a three-run blast with two outs in the eighth.
His Royals' teammate, Juan Cruz, had two hits, one a sixth-inning solo homer. Three others drove in one run, while winning pitcher Johnny Cueto (1-0) of the Cincinnati Reds gave up three hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings with one walk and five strikeouts.
Luis Durango had two of the six hits for the Panamanians, who went home without a win or any runs in two games. They lost to Puerto 7-0 Saturday.
