NHL: Pittsburgh 4, Washington 3 (SO)

WASHINGTON, March 8 (UPI) -- The streaking Pittsburgh Penguins blew a two-goal lead in the third period Sunday but went on to defeat Washington 4-3 on a shootout goal by Sidney Crosby.

Crosby, who also scored and added an assist in regulation, fired a wrist shot past Capitals goalie Jose Theodore for the only goal of the shootout.

Bill Guerin had a goal and two assists and Sergei Gonchar also scored for the Penguins, who have won six straight games and eight of nine.

Alexander Semin, Alex Ovechkin and Brooks Laich notched the Washington goals, the latter two erasing a 3-1 Pittsburgh lead in the third period.

Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury turned back 29 shots and saved the win by blocking a shot by Ovechkin in the shootout.

Theodore had 19 saves.
