COL BKB: Michigan 87, Purdue 78

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- DeShawn Sims and Manny Harris combined for 56 points Thursday and Michigan shot 63 percent from the floor in defeating No. 16 Purdue 87-78.

Sims had 29 points while making 13-of-16 field goal attempts. Harris had eight rebounds and four assists to go with his 27 points.

Michigan (18-11, 8-8 Big Ten) won for the third time in four games. The Wolverines hope to earn an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, since they own wins this season over Duke and UCLA and have a 3-4 record against ranked opponents.

Purdue (21-7, 10-5) lost for the first time in five games. The Boilermakers were led by 24 points from Robbie Hummel and 18 from E'Twaun Moore.

Purdue fell two games behind conference-leading Michigan State.

The Boilermakers defeated Michigan by 18 points in their previous meeting this season.
