COL BKB: Virginia Tech 80, Clemson 77

CLEMSON, S.C., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A.D. Vassallo hit two free throws with 12 seconds left Wednesday and Virginia Tech survived a last-second 3-point try to defeat No. 13 Clemson 80-77.

Virginia Tech hit seven 3-pointers in the second half and was 11-of-19 from long range overall, avenging a four-point loss at Clemson last month.

Malcolm Delaney led the Hokies (17-10, 7-6 ACC) with 26 points and Vassallo had 21.

Terrence Oglesby had 22 points and hit 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc for the Tigers (22-5, 8-5).

Clemson cut its deficit to 78-77 with 20 seconds to go on a layup by Trevor Booker, who scored 21 points.

Vassallo then hit his two foul shots to account for the final score. Demontez Stitt attempted to send the game into overtime, but he could not hit his long-range shot, which came under heavy pressure.
