INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- The NBA Players Association filed a grievance on behalf of Indiana Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley, who has been told by management to stay away from the team.
Tinsley is on the Pacers' active roster, but because of off-court incidents he has been kept inactive. He hasn't even practiced with the team this season. The players' union filed the grievance trying to expedite the situation.
"We are aware of the grievance filed today on behalf of Jamaal Tinsley," Pacers President Larry Bird said in a statement. "We made it clear to Jamaal and his agent, Raymond Brothers, that we would pursue a trade that we feel would be best for both parties and we continue to do so. In the meantime, we will do whatever necessary in preparing our case for arbitration should it come to that."
Tinsley has two years and $14.7 million left on his contract.
According to ESPN, the Pacers are trying to trade him, possibly to the Charlotte Bobcats, by the league's Feb. 19 deadline.
Tinsley, 30, played in 39 games with the Pacers last season, averaging 11.9 points and a career-high 8.4 assists.
