Relative of Bonds' trainer has home raided

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A home in Redwood City, Calif., owned by the mother-in-law of Greg Anderson, the weight trainer for former slugger Barry Bonds, has been raided, officials say.

Federal officials said the raid on Madeleine Gestas' home took four hours to complete and resulted in the seizure of several documents from the property, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Gestas, 58, owes more than $1.6 million from several legal judgments that have yet to be paid, public records show.

But attorneys for Gestas maintain Wednesday's raid was an attempt by federal officials to pressure Anderson to take part in the upcoming Bonds perjury trial.

Anderson has repeatedly refused to testify before the federal grand jury that indicted the former San Francisco Giants star on perjury charges.

Bonds, who holds the Major League Baseball record for most career home runs, was accused of perjury after he testified he never knowingly used steroids during his baseball career, the Chronicle said.
