NHL: Los Angeles 6, Colorado 5

DENVER, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Alexander Frolov scored twice to help Los Angeles build a four-goal lead Wednesday and the Kings held on to edge Colorado 6-5.

Brian Willsie and Cody McLeod scored less than 2 minutes apart in the third period to bring the Avalanche within one with 12:24 still to play. Jonathan Quick then closed the door on Colorado and finished with 36 saves to get the win.

Dustin Brown's second-period goal turned out to be the game-winner in a meeting of struggling teams. Los Angeles has won two in a row after a four-game losing streak and enters the All-Star break last in the Pacific Division.

Colorado has lost four out of five.

Peter Budaj was removed from goal after giving up four goals on 15 shots. Andrew Raycroft made 11 saves the rest of the way.
