UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Alexander Ovechkin's two goals, including one on the power play with 3:14 left in overtime, gave Washington a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders Monday.

The winning goal was set up when Sergei Fedorov skated the puck into the New York end, stopped at the right circle and fed a short pass over to Alexander Semin. Semin skated to the low right side, and then sent the puck out front to Ovechkin, who one-timed it past Yann Denis for his league-leading 31st goal of the season.

Jose Theodore made 27 saves in the win for the Capitals, who have won their last three games and all three against the Isles this season.

The Islanders' lone goal came from Kyle Okposo. Denis stopped 36 shots for the Islanders, who have an eight-game losing streak.
