PITTSBURGH, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Two goals from Matt Cooke and 21 saves by Marc-Andre Fleury Friday brought the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-1 victory over Anaheim.
The Penguins won despite the absence of all-star center and team captain Sidney Crosby, who missed his first game of the season with a lower body injury.
Cooke's goals came with 21 seconds remaining in the first period and with 23 seconds having elapsed in the second.
His first-period score came on a wraparound from the right side that eluded Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Cooke fired a backhander past Giguere to make it 2-0.
Hal Gill gave the Penguins a 3-1 lead with 4:55 remaining in the third period. It was the first goal of the season for Gill, who returned this week after missing 10 games with a shoulder injury.
Anaheim has lost four out of five games.
