NHL: Phoenix 4, Vancouver 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Joakim Lindstrom scored two first-period goals Thursday and the Phoenix Coyotes spoiled the return of goaltender Robert Luongo by downing Vancouver 4-1.

Luongo missed 23 games with a groin injury suffered Nov. 22. He had gone 11-5-2 early in the season with a 2.17 goals-against average and five shutouts.

Lindstrom, however, needed just 65 seconds to get a wrist shot past Luongo and then scored again on the power play with 6:44 to go in the first. Keith Yandle and Peter Mueller added goals in the second period, boosting the Coyotes to their third win in four games.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves to get the win. His shutout bid came to an end when Daniel Sedin scored with 8:58 to play.

Luongo surrendered the four goals on 30 shots. Vancouver has lost four straight.
