NHL: Toronto 6, Carolina 4

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Jason Blake had a hat trick Thursday and the Toronto Maple Leafs, after letting a four-goal lead slip away, came back to down Carolina 6-4.

The Maple Leafs scored the game's first four goals and Carolina answered with four of its own in a match-up of struggling teams. Toronto had lost its previous four games and Carolina's losing streak was extended to four.

Tomas Kaberle scored the game-winner on the power play with 5:25 to play in the third period and Blake added his third of the night into an empty net with 11 seconds to go.

Blake produced his first hat trick of the season and the sixth of his NHL career, scoring twice in the second period. His second goal came with 4:53 remaining in the frame and gave the Maple Leafs a 4-0 lead. Blake added two assists for a career-high five points.

Vesa Toskala allowed four goals on 32 shots in picking up the victory.

Matt Cullen, Tuomo Ruutu, Eric Staal and Scott Walker scored for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward made 23 saves.
