NHL: Tampa Bay 4, Philadelphia 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Mike Smith allowed only a power-play goal and made 31 saves Thursday night in carrying the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia.

It was the third win in four games for the Lightning, who got off 44 shots and finished the scoring with a penalty shot by Vincent Lecavalier in the third period.

Martin St. Louis, Andrej Meszaros and Ryan Craig scored in a span of 2:03 late in the second period to put Tampa Bay in control.

Smith surrendered a goal to Joffrey Lupul 5:21 into the second period. St. Louis tied it with 5:12 to go in the period and Meszaros delivered the game-winner 25 seconds later while Randy Jones was in the penalty box for tripping.

Philadelphia defenseman Kimmo Timonen left the game midway through the first period with a bloody nose after being hit by a deflected puck.
