DENVER, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Chauncey Billups sank two foul shots with 2 seconds remaining Tuesday, giving Denver a 99-97 victory over Dallas.
The Nuggets led by as many as 17 points, but Dallas rallied to take a four-point advantage with 1:32 to play on Dirk Nowitzki's two free throws.
Denver then scored six straight points, including a layup by Anthony Carter with 25 seconds to go that gave the Nuggets a 97-95 advantage. Nowitzki followed with a dunk for the last of his 44 points, but Billups was fouled by Jason Terry and hit the two shots that won it.
Nene stole the ensuing inbounds pass from Jason Kidd to clinch the victory.
Denver won for the sixth time in seven games, bouncing back from a loss to Detroit on Friday that halted a five-game winning streak. Dallas has lost three in a row, all on the road.
Billups scored 23 to lead Denver. Nowitzki made 15-of-26 shots from the field and all 12 free throw tries.
