Ball State's Davis turning pro

MUNCIE, Ind., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Quarterback Nate Davis won't be going back to Ball State next season, the school said Tuesday, saying he wants to compete in the NFL.

Davis will give up his final year of collegiate eligibility to enter the 2009 NFL draft.

Davis was the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year this season. He completed 258-of-401 passes for 3,591 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

He was the first Ball State quarterback to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season twice and set the school record of 3,667 yards in 2007.
