NHL: Vancouver 4, Edmonton 2

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Steve Bernier scored goals 12 seconds apart late in the second period Wednesday and Vancouver held on to defeat Edmonton 4-2.

Bernier's goals ran his total this year to nine and gave the Canucks a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Erik Cole brought Edmonton within one 8:48 into the third and Pavol Demitra clinched it by scoring into an empty net with 36 seconds to play.

Jason LaBarbera made 23 saves to get the win. Vancouver had lost its previous two games and Edmonton had won two in a row.

Dwayne Roloson made 18 stops for the Oilers, who remained tied for last place with Colorado in the Northwest Division.
