Ottawa's Ruutu suspended for alleged bite

TORONTO, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The National Hockey League suspended Ottawa Senators' forward Jarkko Ruutu for two games Wednesday for allegedly biting Buffalo's Andrew Peters during a game.

The suspension, without pay, covered games against the Boston Bruins (Thursday) and the New York Rangers (Saturday). Ruutu can return to the Senators' lineup Jan. 13 against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ruutu was suspended for an incident in the first period of a 4-2 Sabres' win over the Senators Tuesday.

During a confrontation on the ice, Peters had a gloved hand in Ruutu's face and came away from the skirmish complaining that he had been bitten.

No penalty was called and Ruutu denied biting Peters.

The suspension was ordered after Ruutu spoke with NHL official Colin Campbell.
