Cardinals sign reliever Ring

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Free-agent reliever Royce Ring has landed in St. Louis for the new year, signing a one-year contract with the Cardinals, the team announced Monday.

The free-agent left-hander spent last season in Atlanta where he went 2-1 with an 8.46 earned-run average in 22 1/3 innings over 42 appearances for the Braves.

He has a career record off 3-3 with a 4.93 ERA in 94 appearances over the past four seasons with the New York Mets, San Diego and Atlanta.

Terms of his deal with St. Louis weren't disclosed.
