The 6-foot-9 inch Hendrickson pitched for the Florida Marlins during the 2008 season, compiling a 7-8 record in 36 appearances (19 starts) with 48 walks and 81 strikeouts in 133 2/3 innings.

Baltimore likely will use the 11-year veteran to replace right hander Daniel Cabrera, who signed with Washington after the Orioles did not re-sign him this off-season.

Hendrickson, a former NBA player and former member of Washington State's basketball team, has a career mark of 50-63 with a 5.07 ERA in 215 major league games.

In seven seasons, he also has pitched for Toronto, Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is the 11th athlete to play in the majors and the NBA, and only the seventh pitcher in major league history to be 6-9 or taller.
