ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Rookie Steve Mason made 27 saves in a 2-0 win over Anaheim Wednesday to become the first Columbus goaltender ever to record three straight shutouts.
Mason has not allowed a goal in a franchise-record 182 minutes, 8 seconds. He has stopped 71 shots in the wins over Anaheim, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, and has four shutouts for the season.
He came into the game leading the NHL in goals-against average at 1.77.
Anaheim's Jean-Sebastien Giguere also carried a shutout into the third period, but Craig MacDonald scored on a tip-in 7:33 into the period for his first goal of the season and Michael Peca added some insurance with 2:34 to play.
MacDonald was recalled last Saturday from Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
Columbus had lost five straight games to Anaheim, four of them by one goal.
