COL FB: West Virginia 31, North Carolina 3

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Pat White threw for a career-high 333 yards and three touchdowns Saturday, guiding West Virginia past North Carolina 31-30 in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

White finished 27-of-33 passing while also rushing for 57 yards on 22 carries. The senior signal-caller was voted the game's most valuable player for his efforts.

He also became the first quarterback in FBS history to start and win four bowl games in four seasons for the Mountaineers (9-4). West Virginia also recorded victories with White directing the offense in the Sugar (2005), Gator (2006) and Fiesta (2007) over the previous three years.

Alric Arnett caught two of White's passes for scores and wound up with 93 yards on seven receptions. Bradley Starks got White's other scoring pass and finished with 61 yards.

The Mountaineers' Noel Devine rushed 13 times for 60 yards and a touchdown.

The Tar Heels' Hakeem Nicks had eight receptions for 217 yards and three touchdowns.

T.J. Yates completed 15-of-25 passes for 209 yards, two scores and an interception. James Arnold also had a passing touchdown and Shaun Draughn ran for 65 yards on 17 carries.

North Carolina ended its season 8-5 after losing three of its last four games.
