Steelers' Smith placed on injured reserve

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Offensive tackle Marvel Smith was placed on injured reserve Tuesday by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The team's second-round draft pick in 2000 out of Arizona State, Smith played in the first five games of this season before injuring his back. He has been inactive for the past 10 weeks.

Smith made the Pro Bowl for the 2004 season, the only time he has made the All-Star team.

The Steelers signed offense tackle Jason Capizzi from the St. Louis Rams practice squad to fill Smith's roster sort.
