NHL: Washington 5, N.Y. Rangers 4 (OT)

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Shaone Morrisonn scored 59 seconds into overtime Tuesday, completing an unlikely four-goal Washington rally that stunned the N.Y. Rangers 5-4.

Morrisonn scored on a slap shot from inside the left circle that zipped over the glove of Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals and assisted on another for the Southeast Division-leading Capitals. Nicklas Backstrom had three assists, as Washington won for the sixth time in seven games.

Jose Theodore made 21 saves for Washington.

Ryan Callahan scored twice for the Rangers, who have dropped two straight but lead the Atlantic Division. Chris Drury had three assists.

Lundqvist came up with 31 shots shots in defeat.

Tomas Fleischmann started Washington's rally with a deflection shot at the 1:41 mark of the third period that made it 4-2. Viktor Kozlov made it 4-3 with a wrist shot at 7:04 and Ovechkin tied it up with 7:22 remaining when he snared the puck at the blue line then raced in to tuck it past Lundqvist.
