Rams CEO ends 27-year job with team

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Jay Zygmunt resigned Monday as president of football operations and general manager of the St. Louis Rams.

His resignation, effectively immediately, ended his 27-season tenure with the franchise. The moved involves a reduced role for team President John Shaw and increased responsibility for Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Billy Devaney.

The Rams, 3-13 in 2007, are currently 2-13 with one game left against the Falcons in Atlanta.

Scott Linehan was relieved of his head coaching duties after an 0-4 start, and interim coach Jim Haslett won his first two games before losing nine in a row. That is the longest losing streak for the franchise since the team, then the Los Angeles Rams, lost the final 10 games of the 1991 season and the opener of the 1992 campaign.
