Reds get Hernandez for Freel

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Cincinnati got catcher Ramon Hernandez from Baltimore Tuesday by trading utility player Ryan Freel and two minor leaguers.

The Reds also received cash considerations. The Orioles got minor league infield prospects Brandon Waring and Justin Turner.

Hernandez, 32, hit .257 with 15 home runs and 65 RBI in 133 games for the Orioles in 2008. In 10 major league seasons with Oakland, San Diego and Baltimore, Hernandez has a career .263 batting average with 137 homers and 602 RBI.

Freel, also 32, batted .298 with 10 RBI in 48 games for the Reds in 2008 before having season-ending surgery on July 23 to repair a torn tendon in his right hamstring. In seven major league seasons with Toronto and Cincinnati, Freel has batted .272 with 22 homers, 117 RBI and 142 stolen bases.
