LONDON, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- English cricket star Chris Lewis was arrested Tuesday after British customs inspectors found a large quantity of cocaine allegedly hidden in his luggage.
Lewis, 40, had just arrived at Gatwick Airport outside London from St. Lucia in the West Indies, The Sun reported. Chad Kirnon, 26, a basketball player who had been with Lewis on the flight, was also arrested.
Both men were ordered held without bail. Lewis, who was born in Guyana, and Kirnon live in London.
Investigators said that the cocaine, with a street value of 200,000 pounds ($350,000), was concealed in tins of canned fruit.
Lewis retired from professional cricket at the age of 32 after playing for Leicestershire, Surrey and Nottinghamshire and on all-England teams. He played 32 Test matches.
This year, he attempted a comeback with Surrey.
