COL BKB: Georgetown 73, American 49

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Chris Wright's career-high 22 points Saturday keyed 18th-ranked Georgetown's 73-49 rout of American.

The winners scored the game's first 13 points on the way to a 40-12 halftime advantage and kept the Eagles from building a consistent rally in the final stanza.

Jessie Sapp and DaJuan Summers scored 14 points apiece, while Austin Freeman added seven points with five assists for the Hoyas (5-1), who have won two of three.

Without any player in double figures, Garrison Carr and Derrick Mercer led the Eagles (4-4) with nine points each.

Brian Gilmore and Frank Borden both scored eight points in the Eagles' third straight loss following wins in their first four games.

They outscored the Hoyas 37-33 in the second half, but could not overcome 34 percent shooting and missing 18-of-23 free throws.
