COL BKB: Oklahoma 83, American 54

NORMAN, Okla., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Blake Griffin scored 24 points Friday and pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds in carrying No. 14 Oklahoma to an 83-54 win over American University.

The Sooners hit 53.8 percent of their shots from the field in a sharp season opener. Cade Davis added 11 points and Willie Warren had 10.

American, which reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history last season, was led by 16 points from Brian Gilmore.

Oklahoma had a 10-0 run midway through the first half en route to a 47-24 lead at the break. The Sooners have won 22 of their last 24 season openers, including the last six.
