NHL: New Jersey 4, Tampa Bay 3 (SO)

NEWARK, N.J., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Jamie Langenbrunner scored in the third round of a shootout Wednesday, giving the New Jersey Devils a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

New Jersey won the shootout 2-1 after Patrik Elias scored in the first round, trumping Vincent Lecavalier.

Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie after Tampa Bay right wing Martin St. Louis scored on the power play at 16:40 of the third period.

Kevin Weekes, starting in placed of the injured Martin Brodeur, made 24 save on 27 shots for the Devils, who extended their winning streak against Tampa Bay to four in a row.

In regulation, the Devils got goals from David Clarkson and Elias (power play) both in the second period, and Jay Pandolfo in the third.

Left wing Jussi Jokinen scored twice in regulation, while netminder Mike Smith was beaten twice on 38 shots for the Lightning, whose three-game winning streak ended.

Brodeur is to have elbow surgery Thursday, and is expected to miss 3-4 months.
