EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The New York Giants have placed Super Bowl hero wide receiver David Tyree on the season-ending injured reserve list with a hamstring injury.

The injury followed off-season knee surgery, which forced the Giants to place him on their physically unable to perform list list.

New York had until 4 p.m. Eastern Wednesday to day to make a decision about Tyree's status.

"We felt that at some point in time he would be ready to go," Coach Tom Coughlin said on the team's Web site. "The unfortunate part of this is that over the three-week period when we could utilize David (but) he really was unable to do that the majority of the time because of the hamstring issue."

The 28-year-old Tyree made a spectacular catch on a pass from quarterback Eli Manning during the game-winning drive in the Giants' 17-14 Super Bowl victory against the unbeaten and heavily favored New England Patriots.
