Leg injury sidelines Tyler Hansbrough

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- North Carolina all-America forward Tyler Hansbrough is out indefinitely with a stress reaction condition in his right shin.

Coach Roy Williams revealed the injury Thursday night, and the school said in a statement that he will not have a statement until after he has a meeting with the UNC medical staff and the 6-foot-9 inch senior from Polar Bluff, Mo., believed to be Friday afternoon.

Hansbrough did not practice before Williams' brief statement, and an MRI revealed the injury.

"I think he'll get well pretty quick," orthopedic surgeon Gene Hansbrough told the Raleigh (N.C.) News and Observer. "These things happen, and he'll be all right."

Hansbrough has played in 108 games over his first three seasons, has scored 2,168 points, and likely will overcome legendary point guard Phil Ford (2,290) as UNC's all-time scoring leader when he returns.

The Tar Heels are a solid No. 1 in the preseason USA Today coaches poll.
