Waters sticking with Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Coach Gary Waters said Monday he has signed a contract extension to keep him at the helm of the Cleveland State basketball program through the 2012-2013 season.

The extension supplants the five-year deal he struck with the school in 2006.

"I am excited about the prospects of ending my coaching career at Cleveland State," said Waters. "The structure of this contract will allow us to do the things that we need to do as a program to make Cleveland State one of the best basketball programs in the country. I thank both President Michael Schwartz and Athletic Director Lee Reed for their confidence in me."

The 57-year-old coach was named the Horizon League Co-Coach of the Year after Cleveland State posted a 21-13 record and appeared in the National Invitation Tournament last season. It was the school's first post-season appearance in 20 years.

Waters has a 202-169 record in 12 years at Kent State, Rutgers and Cleveland State.
