Rolfe named MLS Player of the Week

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Chicago Fire forward Chris Rolfe was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week Monday for the final week of the 2008 regular season.

Rolfe had three goals and two assists in the Fire's 5-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls Thursday. The win helped Chicago earn the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoff bracket and home-field advantage for their semifinal series vs. the New England Revolution.

This is the first career player of the week award for Rolfe, who is in his fourth season in MLS.

"It was a good win and great way to finish the regular season and head into the playoffs," Rolfe said. "I think it might have been the first time since high school that I had a hat trick."

Rolfe, 25, has scored 30 career MLS goals and led the Fire this season with nine goals.
