ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay's Matt Garza and four relievers held Boston to three hits and the Rays beat the Red Sox 3-1 Sunday to win the ALCS and move on to the World Series.

Willie Aybar hit a solo home run and Evan Longoria, with a double, and Rocco Baldelli, with a single, drove in a run apiece for the Rays.

Tampa Bay will play in its first World series, taking on the National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Garza (2-1) allowed two hits and struck out nine batters over seven innings. Relievers Dan Wheeler, J.P. Howell, Chad Bradford and David Price kept Boston Sox scoreless the rest of the way.

Price struck out J.D. Drew with the bases loaded to end an eighth-inning Boston threat.

Dustin Pedroia homered for the Red Sox.

Jon Lester (1-2) took the loss, giving up three runs and six hits in seven innings.
