BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Thomas Vanek scored his sixth goal of the young season Friday and Buffalo remained unbeaten in its first four games with a 5-2 victory over Vancouver.
Buffalo took a 3-0 lead after one period and Vanek made it 4-1 in the second with a backhander that made its way past Vancouver goaltender Curtis Stanford.
Robert Luongo was given the night off and Stanford let in five goals on 31 shots as his replacement. Ryan Miller got the win with 23 saves.
Jaroslav Spacek and Clarke Macarthur scored power-play goals to open the scoring and Ales Kotalik scored on a wrister with 6:50 to play in the first period.
Kotalik scored again in the third, running his total to four goals this season. Buffalo is the only team in the Eastern Conference without a loss.
