THE WOODLANDS, Texas, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Andy Bean fired a 7-under 65 Friday that put him one stroke in front after the opening round of the Champions Tour's Administaff Small Business Classic.
Bean, who won 11 times on the PGA Tour, is seeking his second victory of the year on the Champions circuit.
Leading money winner Jay Haas, the winner of this tournament two years ago, was tied for second at 66 with Joey Sindelar.
Sandy Lyle, Lonnie Nielsen, Brad Bryant and Wayne Grady were all at 67 at The Woodlands Country Club course.
This is one of two events remaining before the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
Defending champion Bernhard Langer was among those at 68 and Ben Crenshaw was in the group at 69. There were 27 players within five shots of the lead.
