Jeff Burton wins Bank of America 500

CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Jeff Burton was the winner at Saturday night's Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup auto race at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.

In his No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, Burton led the final 57 laps and beat runner-up Kasey Kahne by one second. It was Burton's second victory this season and the 21st of his Sprint Cup career.

He jumped from fourth to second in the season-ending "Race for the Chase" championship standings, 69 points behind leader and two-time champion Jimmie Johnson.

"We were at our best on old tires, and we were good enough when it counted," Burton said.

Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch and Jamie McMurray completed the top-five. Johnson finished sixth.

Kahne failed in his effort to become the first driver to win the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Challenge, the Coca-Cola 600 and the Bank of America race, all in the same season.
