Report: Tim Montgomery gets 5 more years

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Former Olympic sprinter Tim Montgomery has received a five-year prison for heroin distribution, the Virginian-Pilot reported Friday.

Montgomery, who won a gold medal in the 400 relay at the 2000 Olympics and a silver medal in the 400 relay at the 1996 Olympics, received a maximum sentence in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Va. He had entered a guilty plea, the newspaper reported.

The sentence was added to Montgomery's 46-month sentence after entering a guilty plea in April 2007 to bank fraud and conspiracy charges in New York, the newspaper said.

In that case, the South Carolina native and his former Norfolk State University track coach, Steve Riddick, were convicted of participating in a $5 million counterfeit check ring.

Riddick was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this year.
