COL FB: Wake Forest 12, Clemson 7

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Riley Skinner's 7-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Boldin with 5:28 remaining Thursday lifted No. 21 Wake Forest to a 12-7 victory over Clemson.

Clemson owned a 7-3 lead going into the fourth period, but Wake Forest's Alphonso Smith turned the game around when he intercepted a Cullen Harper pass deep in the Tigers' end of the field. That set up Shane Popham's second field goal of the game, a 32-yarder that brought the Demon Deacons within a point.

Wake Forest moved the ball 78 yards on its next possession, converting two third downs along the way. Skinner and Boldin hooked up on three passes during the drive -- including the game-winner.

Clemson took over at its own 27 following Wake Forest's go-ahead touchdown, but the Tigers managed only one first down.

Wake Forest improved to 4-1, its only loss coming to Navy, and is 2-0 in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson, also in the Atlantic Division, fell to 3-3 and 1-3.

Clemson's touchdown came on an 11-yard throw from Cullen Harper to Jacoby Ford with seven seconds left in the third period.
