Del Potro makes men's tennis Top 10

LONDON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Juan Martin del Potro continued his climb up the world men's tennis rankings, cracking the Top 10 Monday for the first time.

Del Potro reached his fifth ATP final of the season last week and, even though he fell to Tomas Berdych in the title match, improved his ranking three spots to ninth in the world. He was rated 81st in April and 65th early in July.

"I'm feeling very good because everything is good for me now," del Potro said Sunday. "The results are coming and everything is coming together. I have the chance to qualify for the Tennis Masters Cup, I need one or two more results and I'm working to earn this. I hope to continue this good form and qualify for Shanghai."

Berdych, who was once ranked as high as ninth, improved his latest rating six spots to 21st with the tournament win.

Rafael Nadal continues to have a strong hold on the No. 1 spot followed by Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Nikolay Davydenko moved from sixth to fifth, switching ranking places with David Ferrer while David Nalbandian is seventh, Andy Roddick eighth and Stanislas Wawrinka, who was ninth last week, is 10th. James Blake dropped from 10th to 11th.
