The winner was reliever Jason Davis (2-4).
Closer Matt Capps, the last of seven Pittsburgh pitchers, recorded his 20th save.
Houston got one RBI from three players and a run scored on Lance Berkman's third inning double play groundout.
Kaz Matsui had three hits.
Michael Bourn had two hits and six others had one hit for the Astros, who have split their last 10 games.
Losing pitcher Brian Moehler (11-8) gave up five earned runs and five hits in the bottom of the first.
